Young runner Mauro Cantolán from San Juan Cosalá won the 13-kilometer (8.1 miles) open category of the Ultra Costa Trail, a competition held on Nov. 22 in Manzanillo, Colima. The event brought together dozens of athletes running a course between the mountains and the beach on two main routes, 13 and 23 kilometers (14.3 miles) long.
Cantolán cited his ability to adapt to the humidity of the Colima coast, a factor that was one of the race’s biggest challenges. “I feel very happy, very content. My body responded well to the humidity. I had to run the Ultra Costa Trail to feel more confident going to Mazatlán on Nov. 29,” he shared with Semanario Laguna.
This year, Mauro has had an intense schedule, participating in competitions such as Huasca de Ocampo, Tepec, and the National Selective, which has strengthened his performance in mountain events. He plans to end the year by running the 21K Tres Pueblos in Jocotepec, his last race of 2025.
Cantolán expressed gratitude to those who have supported his athletic growth. “I am grateful to my coach and my family, who are always supporting me.”
