Jalisco expects about three million tourists for the four World Cup soccer matches beginning in June.
Akron Stadium will host group-stage matches between South Korea and the winner of a UEFA playoff, Mexico vs. South Korea, Colombia vs. the winner of FIFA Playoff 1, and the most anticipated match, Spain vs. Uruguay.
“The fourth match we will host will be the most anticipated,” Jalisco Gov. Jesús Pablo Lemus Navarro said during a trip to Madrid. “It brings together two world champions in a game that could be decisive.”
Guadalajara officials also announced plans to install FIFA Fan Fest areas, official fan zones where people can gather to watch matches on large screens. The main site will be in the city center. A legendary match between former Real Madrid and FC Barcelona players is also scheduled, along with free public concerts by the band Maná and singer Alejandro Fernández.
With these events, Jalisco will host the World Cup for the third time, after Mexico 1970 and Mexico 1986.
