Chapala’s women’s soccer team kept its winning streak alive in the 2025 Telmex-Telcel Cup, taking first place in Group 1 after a second straight victory.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, at El Llanito Field in Chapala, Chapala defeated Cihuatlán 2-1 with goals from Paola López and Jacqueline Hernández. Under head coach Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Hermosillo, the team now leads both its group and the overall standings based on goal difference.

The win followed a dominant 7-1 victory over Jalisco on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Levet High Performance Field in Guadalajara. Nancy Hermosillo and Lula Álvarez each scored twice in that game. Carmen Cortés, Mariana Gutiérrez and Ruby Aviña added one goal each.

With nine goals scored and only two allowed, Chapala has shown both offensive power and teamwork, making the squad one of the strongest contenders in the tournament.

The Telmex-Telcel Cup overall involves more than 13,000 teams across all divisions nationwide. Each state sends its own champion teams to the national finals, and in the past, the girls’ (femenil) national stage typically involves state champions from Mexico’s 32 states, meaning around 32 teams in the national girls’ phase.
