Olympic sailor Elena Oetling Ramírez from Chapala was crowned champion of the ILCA 6 class at the third edition of the Mayan Wind Fest 2026, held from Jan. 23 to 25 in the waters of Puerto Cancún, Quintana Roo.

With a dominant performance, the representative of Mexico at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games cemented her leadership in national sailing by winning the Senior category and placing first overall in the competition.

Oetling Ramírez secured her victory with 11 net points after nine regatas (races). In competitive sailing, officials use the “Low Point System,” where a sailor’s score for each race equals their finishing position — meaning the lowest score wins. Because the series included nine races, Oetling was able to “discard” her worst score, leaving her with a final “net” total that reflects her most consistent top-tier performances.

This low-scoring margin allowed Oetling to win by a wide margin over her rivals. Sabrina Elena Hernández Prado of Cancun took second place with 42 net points, while Sofía del Paso Montero finished third with 49 units. In the overall standings, Álvaro Ramírez Jassa of Yucatan earned second place with 12 net points, followed by Ander Luisa Arroyo of Puerto Cancun in third with 30 points.
