Chapala is preparing to host professional tennis with the First Mexus Tennis Center Men’s Open Tournament, which will take place from March 20 to 22, 2026, at Parque de La Cristianía. The event is endorsed by the Mexican Association of Professional Tennis Players (AMTP), ensuring a top-tier competitive level.
Among the participants, Eduardo Orozco, the current number one in national rankings, stands out; he will lead a main draw featuring at least 12 players. The competition will begin with the round of 16 and offer a prize pool of 20,000 pesos (about 1,129 USD), contributed by sponsors and the Mexus Tennis Center. Prize money will begin to be distributed starting with the quarterfinals, while the champion and runner-up will receive a trophy and official recognition.
Activities will kick off on Friday, March 20, with player registration and check-in between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by the first scheduled matches starting at 2 p.m. Matches will continue on Saturday, March 21, and the grand final will be played on Sunday, March 22, around noon, culminating in the awards ceremony.
Hosting this tournament marks a significant milestone for the region, as AMTP-endorsed events are rare in both Chapala and Guadalajara. With this initiative, the municipality joins the association’s professional circuit, which has organized more than 4,000 tournaments nationwide, and seeks to establish itself as a new hub for national tennis.
The tournament will be open to the public and completely free of charge, offering the community the opportunity to enjoy a high-level sporting event.
