Chapala soccer standout Ellie Guizar capped a dominant tournament run on Wednesday, May 27, earning a silver medal after leading the Jalisco under-15 women’s team to the final match of the 2026 National Olympics.

Jalisco dropped a hard-fought 3-1 championship match to the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IMME) at the Ciudad Universitaria Olympic Stadium in Mexico City. The emotional finale took place on the very same pitch that hosted the first-division Mexican short-tournament final between Pumas and Cruz Azul just three days prior.

Guizar delivered a stellar performance throughout the tournament, anchoring the squad as starting left back and team captain while racking up two goals and an assist. Achieving this milestone inside the historic venue—a designated UN World Heritage site—marked a profound moment for the young lakeside athlete.

“Representing Jalisco has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me,” Guizar told Semanario Laguna, recalling her initial hesitation to enter the selection process. “From the moment I decided to go to the tryouts, even fearing I wouldn’t make the cut, it is something I will always thank God for.”

“This is my first and last National Olympiad, and I regret nothing. Everything has been rewarded after 10 years of dedication to soccer,” she concluded.
