Jocotepec will host the Apple Cup Ribera de Chapala youth soccer tournament for the second time on Nov. 20, 21, and 22, coinciding with the celebrations marking the 497th anniversary of the municipality’s founding.
Organizers expect dozens of boys’ teams in the 2016 and 2018 age groups to compete. Schools, clubs, and teams from Lakeside, the state of Jalisco, or anywhere else in the country can register, according to organizers and municipal officials during the tournament’s announcement on July 23 in the Jocotepec City Council chamber.
As they did last year, teams will play matches on the grass soccer field and the North Sports Complex.
The Apple Cup began 10 years ago in Chihuahua. The tournament champions earn an all-expenses-paid trip to compete for a chance to travel to Europe and take part in the Donosti Cup in San Sebastián, Spain.
Jocotepec president Hugo David García Vargas attended the presentation and described the municipality as an ideal destination for teams and families visiting during the tournament. He noted that last year visitors praised the quality of the town’s many attractions and its tourism services.
