The organizers of United in Hearts July 24 event for Cruz Roj reported that total monies earned through ticket sales, silent and bidding art auction, and cash donations amounted to $230,672 pesos, a phenomenal amount for a weeknight fundraiser. According to the organizers this money will be matched by an anonymous American donor, bringing the total to approximately $460,000 pesos, all of which will go toward the completion of the new clinic at Cruz Roja’s facility in Chapala. Cruz Roja Honorary President and the event organizers wish to thank La Reserva, the many business sponsors of the events, and the very generous cash donations for the overwhelming success of fundraising for the new clinic. And they wish to thank the many volunteers who worked to raise funds for the clinic. Cruz Roja is part of the Mexican Red Cross, a private, non-governmental institution that mobilizes networks of volunteers, communities and donors to operate healthcare and emergency services. Its services are free, including ambulance transportation and emergency medical care. Cruz Roja Chapala discovered that its years- old existing clinic was sinking due to subsidence and is in the final stages of completing a new, expanded building. Cruz Roja receives no government money and Yolanda Martinez and her network of donors and volunteers are very close to their goal of finishing the new building. Other events are now being planned for the final funding drive.
