Chapala athlete Mayte González won the bronze medal in the U-20 5,000-meter (3.11 miles) race at the 2026 National Sports Commission (CONADE) National Olympics, held on May 21 at the Revolución Sports Complex in Guadalajara. She reached the podium with a time of 18 minutes and 1 second.

Her coach and father, Ernesto “Tito” González praised her performance and said that, despite some difficult moments during the year, Mayte delivered a strong race on the track.

The coach explained that competition in the U-20 category is very demanding because the same runners who finished at the top in the 5,000-meter race will also compete in the 3,000-m (1.86 miles) event scheduled for Saturday, May 23.

Mayte González will return to the track this weekend with the goal of winning another medal for Chapala and Jalisco at the 2026 CONADE National Olympics.
