With Jocotepec leading early in the second half amid relentless attacks, Unión Ajijic battled back to secure a 1–1 draw on Sept. 20 during the opening round of the Copa Telmex (Telmex Cup).
In a match played at noon on the Unión de Ajijic soccer field, the first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team managing to score. Shortly after halftime, a defensive miscue by the hosts allowed Jocotepec’s number 14, Gilberto Gabriel, to break free alone against the goalkeeper following a well-timed pass, breaking the deadlock in the opening minutes of the second half.
Unión Ajijic fought back, but it wasn’t until the 85th minute that they scored the equalizer with a spectacular goal by number 10, Kevin García. Capitalizing on a loose ball, García unleashed a long-range shot from outside the penalty box that forced the Jocotepec goalkeeper into a desperate leap, leaving him helpless as the ball settled into the net.
With the tie, the points were split between the two teams. Unión Ajijic continues group play by hosting Cocula, while Jocotepec prepares to face Tuxcueca.
